Basic Checklist
Champions are requested to provide the following as a minimal transmission of information on a proposed innovation to APR. The items to include:
What is/are the new material(s)?
- Specific gravity
- Melting point
- Color and Opacity
- Chemical name
- FDA status for food contact
- MSDS
For what application will the materials be used?
- Type of bottles
- Sizes of bottles
- End uses for bottles
When will we be seeing the innovation?
- Estimated volume in 1, 3, and 5 years?
How can we identify the new materials?
- SPI code for bottles
- Special characteristics of the materials
- Which tests are needed to identify and quantify the materials as residue in PCR flake?
How much will be left with the plastic bottle material after normal processing for bottles using the new material?
What are the effects of reclamation processing?
- Health and safety issues such as flammability, odors, and fuming
- Effects on PCR yield
- Environmental control issues such as effects on waste water treatment needs
What are the effects of Y ppm on PCR plastic product performance?
- IV (PET) or MI (HDPE) and general rheology
- Color changes for clear or natural PCR
- Particulates
- Haze and crystallization effects, for PET
- Thermal stability
- Hydrolytic stability, for PET
