PET Container Rate Holds Steady at Just Over 29% for 2011

NAPCOR and APR Report Highest PET Collection Volume to Date

SONOMA, CALIFORNIA, October 10, 2012 – The National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) and The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) announced today the release of the “2011 Report on Postconsumer PET Container Recycling Activity.” The report cites a 2011 U.S. recycling rate of 29.3% for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic containers. The total volume of postconsumer PET bottles collected was the highest measured to date at 1,604 million pounds; the total amount of RPET produced by U.S. reclaimers was also at an all-time high of 667 million pounds.

Plastic Bottle Recycling Continues to Climb in U.S.

Domestic Processing and Import Sales of Post-consumer Plastic Bottles Increase,
Export Sales Decline

WASHINGTON, DC (October 10, 2012) – Plastic bottle recycling by consumers increased 45 million pounds in 2011, edging up 1.7 percent, to reach over2.6 billion pounds for the year, according to figures released jointly today by the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers (APR) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC).The recycling rate for plastic bottles held steady, inching up one-tenth of one percent to reach 28.9 percent for the year.

Plastics Recycling Industry Announces New Tools to Help Grocers Recycle More Plastics

Hannaford, Stop & Shop Likely to Adopt Expanded Plastics Recycling Program after Successful

Washington, D.C. (October 3, 2012) – The Association of Postconsumer Plastics Recyclers
(APR) today announced the availability of new online resources created to help grocery chains
recycle more of the plastic containers they use and empty onsite. The program is aimed at
recycling the more than 350 million pounds of plastic containers that are discarded annually by
grocery stores across the United States.
