March 5, 2015- APR Press Release

Recipients receive awards during February APR Membership Meeting

The Association of Plastic Recyclers, the leading trade organization representing the plastics recycling industry in North America, recently announced that 3 companies have received recognition for developing new products that meet or exceed the voluntary guidelines under APR's Critical Guidance Recognition Program. To receive APR Critical Guidance Recognition, these companies have used an extensive testing program to demonstrate that their innovations are compatible with today's recycling processes and will not be a source of contamination impacting plastics recycling quality.

DAK America LLC was recognized for the Array™ EBM 5862 Resin, Plastipak Packaging for their two color Direct Object Printing™ Technology on a pigmented copolymer high density polyethylene bottle, and Sleever International for their LDPET shrink sleeve labels.

In addition to Critical Guidance Recognition, an inaugural APR Responsible Innovation Acknowledgment was presented to Berry Plastics for VersaliteTM cellular polypropylene cups. This new program acknowledges that an innovation is not likely to be disruptive to the postconsumer collection and sorting industry, or to the postconsumer plastic processing industry. The program directs innovators to conduct production scale evaluations, collect testimonials addressing specific questions and to publicly describe the innovation to APR members. The Responsible Innovation program is intended to address the need for assessment and communication about innovations not yet included in APR's Critical Guidance testing program.
