Over Thirty Years of Impact
Since 1992, APR has been the definitive resource for designing plastic packaging so that it can be recycled into something new, reducing landfill, plastic pollution, and natural resource extraction.
It Starts With The APR Design® Guide
Widely viewed as the book of truth, the APR Design® Guide has provided technical guidance to thousands of companies on how to design plastic packaging for recyclability. Over the years, this has helped millions of items successfully get recycled and avoid landfills. The APR Design Guide is cited by leading organizations such as The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, The Recycling Partnership, US Plastics Pact, Walmart, and Consumer Goods Forum—and it is used by packaging producers and regulatory bodies worldwide, including regions in North America, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Most recently, the state of California has adopted the APR Design Guide into law, under “Truth in Labeling.”
Recognition & Certification Extend our Reach
APR Design® Recognition has reviewed and recognized packaging from over 120 companies, which has led to the mainstream adoption of impactful innovations like pressure sensitive labels, NIR sortable black colorants, and crystallized PET shrink sleeves. Because one recognized component can be used on thousands of different packages, each APR Design Recognition can have an exponential impact on improving the recycling stream. Additionally, over 35 recyclers have received APR PCR Certification, which has given confidence to companies looking to purchase post-consumer recycled plastic and helped to build a more robust PCR marketplace.
APR Membership Is Extensive
APR members span across the recycling process—from design to collection to processing to remanufacturing—providing holistic input and experience that is needed to understand and strengthen the recycling system.
