Billions of pounds of post-consumer plastic packaging are recycled in the US every year, protecting the environment, strengthening the economy, and helping the country move towards a circular economy. Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) sort and bale plastic packaging, and other recyclables, so they can be sold to recyclers. For plastics recycling to be successful, we need MRFs to be successful. This virtual tour of Eureka Recycling, a mission based non-profit recycler operating a MRF in Minnesota, will take you behind the scenes to see how the conveyor belts, magnets, NIR sorters, people, and other technologies sort plastics, paper, metal, glass, and more at one of the nation’s cleanest MRFs. There’s nothing like “seeing” the MRF process to fully understand how plastics recycling works, and how we can work together as an entire recycling supply chain to ensure more plastics are designed for recycling, collected for recycling, and processed into new materials.
