APR Announces 2019 Plastics Recycling Showcase

Highlighting Innovations to Support the Plastics Recycling Industry

Four new innovations were recently recognized by The Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) as part of the 2019 APR Plastics Recycling Showcase held during the 2019 Plastics Recycling Conference in National Harbor, Maryland. The Showcase, developed to highlight and promote industry leading innovations that have a positive impact on plastics collection and recycling, focuses on recently commercialized innovations developed by APR member companies. As the leading international trade association representing the plastics recycling industry, APR works to provide technical expertise, leadership for long-term industry growth, and commend innovations supporting that growth.

“Innovation in packaging design and recycling technology continue to drive the growth of plastics recycling,” commented John Standish, APR’s Technical Director. “These and other innovations are particularly critical at a time when recyclers are dealing with a tremendous evolution in packaging design and the evolving ton of material in the recycling stream.”

The APR would like to thank the 2019 Innovators for their commitment to the growth of plastics recycling:

• Circular Polymer’s Polymers from Carpet Recycled with the Rotary Impact Separator
• SKC’s Washable Ink Shrink Sleeve (WISS) on Colgate’s Palmolive Oxy Dishwash Bottles
• MCC’s Deseaming Shrink Sleeve Labels: Vitafusion™ MultiVites
• PolyOne’s SmartHeat RHC: The next generation reheat technology for PET bottles

“As plastic packaging continues to come under attack, it is innovations like these that exemplify how the recycling industry is continually working to address the issues of sustainability, and to reinforce the message that recycling is the key to plastic packaging and container sustainability,” commented Steve Alexander, President of APR. “The annual Showcase program is yet another demonstration of how the recycling industry works to address and solve issues relative to the recyclability of plastic packaging. We applaud these companies, and all the companies who have participated in the past to support this dynamic and technology focused industry.”

Showcase recipients are selected by a committee comprised of APR members representing a variety of roles within the value chain.
