Reigning Demand Champions are growing the domestic circular economy.

Published on November 19, 2021

The APR Recycling Demand Champions Program plays a prominent role to strengthen domestic demand for residential mixed plastics, mitigate reliance on export markets, and enable the growth of the circular economy.

APR is thrilled to welcome 28 companies back for program year 2021. By recommitting to the APR Recycling Demand Champions program, these companies are demonstrating their commitment to buy even more post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR) than in previous years, which makes their impact on PCR demand even more impressive.

Thank you to Advanced Drainage Systems, Annie’s Homegrown, Automated Drop Systems, Avery Dennison Label & Graphic Materials, North America, Berry Global, Champion Polymer Recycling, Charter Next Generation, Chick-fil-A, Inc., Clean Tech, Colgate Palmolive Company, Dow, Inc., Fabri-Kal, Intertape Polymer Group, ISOFlex Packaging, Keurig Dr Pepper, Novolex Holdings, PAC Worldwide, Pactiv Evergreen, PakTech, PepsiCo, Rehrig Pacific Company, Revolution, Scotts Miracle-Gro, Silgan Closures, Silgan Plastics, Viva, Waste Management, and Westfall-Technik!

Wondering how you can join? To become an APR Recycling Demand Champion, start by signing the commitment letter pledging to buy more products made with PCR, and/or to increase the amount of PCR in the products you manufacture. Then at the end of the year, report back to APR on how you fulfilled the commitment.

At the same time, APR is pleased to recognize the 2020 APR Recycling Demand Champions: Charter Next Films, Fusion Packaging, Intertape Polymer, ISOFlex Packaging, rPlanet Earth, Sabert Corporation, Sealed Air Corporation, Silgan Closures, Silgan Dispensing, Silgan Plastics, The Kraft Heinz Company, and Westfall-Technik Inc. Together, their commitments increased demand for PCR by 37.3 million pounds and achieved remarkable environmental benefits at a time when others were backing down from environmental goals. For example, their PCR purchasing decisions represent a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions equivalent to removing about 13,000 cars from the road.

The APR Recycling Demand Champions Program expands market demand for recycled resins, highlights the value of postconsumer resin (PCR), and improves plastic recycling in North America. Learn more about the program and become a Champion –  we would love to welcome you!
