Dive Brief:

  • Cascade Cart Solutions recently announced its new “EcoCart" model, which will contain 10% post-consumer plastic, at Waste Management’s annual sustainability forum in Phoenix. 
  • The 10% post-consumer plastic will come from HDPE plastics that Waste Management collects from residential customers. Jo-Anne Perkins, Cascade's vice president of environmental systems and services, told Waste Dive the new model will also be made from re-ground carts that have reached the end of their lifespans.
  • While Waste Management has purchased an estimated 22 million carts from Cascade over the years, the company did not have a specific number available for how many EcoCarts it will buy going forward. “As we fulfill new cart orders, we will prioritize using the EcoCart,” spokesperson Janette Micelli told Waste Dive.
