Ampacet revives film recycling
Materials maker Ampacet wants to revive recycling markets with a new line of masterbatch concentrates.
ReVive-brand compatibilizers are blends of functional additives that can reduce the amount of material sent to landfills by allowing post-industrial and post-consumer barrier films to be reprocessed back into the polyolefin recycling stream, officials with Tarrytown, N.Y.-based Ampacet said in a recent news release.
ReVive is part of Ampacet's R3 Sustainable Solutions, a portfolio of masterbatches that support the global circular economy.
"ReVive helps to minimize the environmental impact of barrier film packaging and can help CPG [consumer packaged goods] brands use more recycled materials in their packaging to achieve sustainability goals," Sustainability Director Doreen Becker said in the release. Becker joined Ampacet in 2017 and was named sustainability director in early 2019.
The new materials give film producers the opportunity to meet Association of Plastics Recyclers test protocols which enable CPG brands to apply for Sustainable Packaging Coalition's How2Recycle designations. Amapacet officials said that film producers also can reduce costs by reducing their use of virgin resin.
Ampacet ranks as one of North America's 30 largest compounders and concentrate makers. The firm employs more than 2,000 at 25 manufacturing sites worldwide and has annual sales of more than $1 billion.
